Nupla Corporation was founded in 1938 by J. Allen Carmien.  Among his many inventions was  as new method of making fiberglass tool handles called “Pultrusion”:  Fiberglass  fibers are pulled through a resin, followed by a performing system and into a heated die, where the resin undergoes polymerization.

With pultrusion, fiberglass fibers run the entire length of a handle.  In the case of  a “miss-blow”, only a few fibers are cut and the handle retains its structural integrity.
